Terms of Service
Effective [Effective date]
These terms are an agreement between you and [Alto legal entity name] (“Alto”, “we”) for using Alto: the Alto app and the stores it hosts. By creating an account you agree to them.
Your account
You need to be at least 18 and able to form a binding contract to sell with Alto. Give us accurate details and keep them up to date. You’re responsible for what happens under your account, so keep your password to yourself.
Your store
You are the seller of everything in your store. You decide what to sell and at what price, and you’re responsible for your listings, for fulfilling and shipping orders, for returns, refunds and customer service, and for following the laws that apply to your business.
Shoppers buy from you, not from Alto. Your store shows your returns policy and contact email so shoppers know how to reach you.
Getting paid
Payments run through Stripe. To take orders you create your own Stripe account and agree to the Stripe Connected Account Agreement, which includes the Stripe Services Agreement. Stripe can change its terms and decides whether to approve your account.
Money from your orders goes into your Stripe account, and Stripe pays it out to your bank. Stripe charges you its processing fees. Refunds, disputes and chargebacks are between you, the shopper and Stripe, and any money owed for them comes from your Stripe balance; Alto doesn’t cover them.
You authorize us to share information about you and your orders with Stripe, and to receive information from Stripe about your account’s status, so your store can take payments.
Alto’s fee
Alto is free to use. When you sell, Alto takes 3% of each order’s products and shipping (not sales tax), and never more than $29 in fees in a calendar month. The fee is taken from each payment by Stripe, before it reaches your balance. When you refund an order from Alto, we refund our fee on it too.
We’ll tell you at least 30 days before we change our fees.
Sales tax
If you turn on sales tax, Alto uses Stripe Tax to add tax at checkout in the states you choose. You’re still responsible for registering where you need to and for filing and paying the tax you collect. Stripe may charge for Stripe Tax.
What you can’t sell
Don’t use Alto to sell anything illegal, anything that infringes someone else’s rights, or anything on Stripe’s list of restricted businesses. Don’t mislead shoppers, and don’t interfere with Alto or other stores.
Your content
You own what you put in your store: your name, logo, photos and descriptions. You give Alto permission to host, copy, resize and show it, to run your store and to show it to shoppers. Only upload content you have the right to use.
Closing your account
You can delete your account any time from Store → Account in the app. That closes your store and deletes your products, orders and photos from Alto. Your Stripe account is yours and stays open, with your balance, payouts and payment history.
We can suspend or close a store that breaks these terms or puts shoppers, Stripe or Alto at risk. We’ll tell you why unless the law or safety stops us.
Disclaimers
We work hard to keep Alto running, but it’s provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We don’t promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free.
To the extent the law allows, Alto isn’t liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for lost profits or sales, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the fees you paid Alto in the 12 months before the claim and $100. You agree to cover Alto’s costs from claims arising from your store, your products or your breach of these terms.
Changes and law
We may update these terms. If a change matters, we’ll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect; using Alto after that means you accept it.
These terms are governed by the laws of [State], USA, and disputes go to the courts there, unless the law where you live says otherwise.
